I don’t know about you, but I’m so excited to see the early signs of Spring! It’s a time when nature comes out of a resting period and transforms into the beautiful colors we love. This is also a perfect time to pull out your spring thematic units, activities and centers. This beginning sound literacy center is also perfect to add to your list of activities!
Perfect for Pre-Schoolers
For pre-schoolers, this is the perfect time of year to get them one step closer to Kindergarten ready. There is so much to do to prep them for this big milestone, but make sure they are age appropriate activities. Not only does this activity show you, the teacher, what letters your students know, but it also gets them one step closer to reading. Which is a BIG deal for little learners.
A Great Review
Sure. This is geared more towards early kindergarteners and pre-schoolers, but this can also be an end of the year review game for your almost first graders! You can also use this beginning sound activity in with your guided reading lessons for those that need a little extra help on those beginning sounds. Kids all learn at different times and pace so don’t assume this activity is too young for your struggling readers. The free printable also is a great tool to help with handwriting and letter formation.
Easy to Set Up and Store
If you’re a follower of MJCS, you know how much I love these card center activities. They are effective, fun and easy to use. Using the clip helps with fine motor skills and they always say they feel like big kids using adult supplies. It’s the little things 🙂 These cards are easy to store. Just print, laminate and place in your favorite box for storage. Or, you can put them in ziploc bags for easy and cheap storage!
