Fairy Tales: A Classroom Transformation

This post may contain affiliate links.  Please read our disclosure here.

I have to admit. I love the classroom transformations that we’ve done this year so far. When my students walk into the classroom, their eyes light up! We had so much fun learning about the elements of fairy tales and it made it even more fun with a fairy tale classroom transformation!

Transform Your Room!

This doesn’t have to take a lot of time, or you can go all out! The point of transforming your class is to have fun! My big focal point was this brick wall bulletin board. My class focused on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs while another teacher focused on Alice in Wonderland.

We even encouraged our kids to dress up as their favorite fairy tale character! Kynlee and I coordinated and kept with the Snow White theme!

Engaging Fairy Tale Activities

Our second grade standards focus on the elements of fairy tales. My team and I had so much fun creating these activities! My students walked into the classroom to find six different literacy centers. Each center had a different objective that we were recently working on. This was a chance for my students to show off what they learned!

This activity focused on the elements of a story. Students read the story of Snow White and completed the Story Element Apple. It’s full of objectives that our students need to know.

To dig deeper into character traits, I recently introduced internal and external traits of characters. It was fitting to have students write about themselves using my mirror printable! Students drew a picture of themself along with listing internal and external traits.

I think this one was a favorite of all of the activities! My students created their own twisted fairy tale! We recently studied pronouns adjectives. This was a fun way to revisit these objectives while writing some fun fairy tales!

As part of our fairy tale unit, my students created their own fractured fairy tale! A fractured fairy tale is taking a familiar story and twisting it. Students can change the characters, change the plot or rewrite an entirely new ending!

You can grab these printables for your learners to write their own by clicking the download button at the bottom!

There is SO much more this resource has to offer. This is just a sneak peek! To transform you room for your fairy tale unit, grab my resource here!
