PHONICS LITERACY STATIONS

I get so many questions about my literacy block. Many teachers shy away from small group instruction because they don’t know the best way to keep others engaged and learning. Literacy is my jam, and planning a successful literacy block has created a learning environment that my students love! I implement activities like these phonics literacy stations to keep my students engaged the entire time!

A Year of Phonics Activities

That’s right! And entire year of standards based activities that are done for you! I used the Science of Reading, Balanced Literacy and Workshop approach. I’ve carefully crafted this list of phonics stations where each skill is a step ladder to the next skill to ensure growth in all of your students.

Good quality phonics curriculums are hard to come by. There are so many out there and nothing that I tried worked for my students. I spent the entire year trying out different styles of literacy stations. With my background in reading and literacy, I took what I know and what worked for my students to come with these phonics literacy activities.

Each activity comes with a cover sheet that provides an ‘I can’ statement. This is a HUGE help in avoiding disruptions while you’re teaching in small groups.

The activities range from matching, sorting to write around the room to keep things changing and engaging.

As a quick assessment or something to send home to parents, your learners will turn in a recording sheet of what they did so you can make further plans in the future for particular students.

This resource pack includes skills such as:

  • Rhyming
  • Long and short vowels
  • Blends
  • Digraphs
  • Clusters
  • Trigraphs
  • Dipthongs
  • Schwa
  • + 22 other phonics skills

Easy to Prep and Store

These resources really are easy to prep. A year’s worth is a lot, but once you print, laminate and cut (or cut and then laminate..) you won’t have to do it again for a long time!

I’ve created a storage system for each activity that is easy to get to and will help keep these activities from bending and getting torn!

Each activity goes in a plastic envelope. The plastic snap on the envelope keeps the activity safe and sound so you won’t have pieces all over the place! If you have a filing cabinet, (luckily I have mine in a closet!) the envelope fits perfectly.
