Fall is a wonderful season to spend with little ones. So much is changing in the world around them. The weather is cooling down, the leaves are changing color and all the learning they’re experiencing is incredible. As a matter of fact, if you’re searching for a fall literacy activity your little learners can enjoy as they watch the squirrels gather acorns outside, this one is perfect.
Sensory Tray
Whether you have a tray for your homeschool or preschool classroom or a sand table for your class at school, creating a sensory experience with a learning center is always a win.
I grabbed this tray from Target and it has been a fantastic addition to our learning space! Similar trays can be found here.
Fall Fun
Finding a variety of goodies for a fall sensory tray is easy! For example, these gourds, leaves, and acorns are a great way to bring the “outdoors” inside the classroom.

Not to mention, you can extend this resource through October and November to keep your literacy and math centers exciting and engaging all season long.
Rhyming Center
So, now that you have an engaging tray or tub for your learners to enjoy, it is time to fill it with a learning center. These rhyming acorns are the perfect match for a fall literacy activity.
First, simply print, laminate and cut the acorns. Then, have your learners match the acorn with the rhyming pictures on them. Easy as pie! Grab this center below by clicking the image at the bottom of this post.
