Valentine’s Day Thematic Unit for Little Learners

What theme do you focus on during your Valentine’s Day unit? During the month of February, I didn’t focus on the candy and cards that were to be passed out. I focused on kindness and friendship during my unit. It was a really good time of year to remind the class on how to treat one another. That’s the theme around this Valentine’s Day thematic unit.

Everything You Need for Your Unit

When I sat down to plan out my thematic units, I wanted to provide a way for teachers to spend less time planning and more time doing the things they love. All units, along with my Valentine’s Day thematic unit, gives you everything you need to run a full unit without searching for more activities.

Cut Planning Time in Half

How would it feel if a lesson plan was handed to you? All you needed what on that lesson plan? What would you do with the extra time given to you? With this unit, you get a detailed lesson plan that will give you plenty of activities for an entire week. The lesson plans contain whole group lessons, and books that center around kindness and friendship. Math and literacy centers are also included.

My Favorite Books

I love everything about literacy. My favorite part of setting up my classroom was the library. Books are the best way to teach any subject and any unit. I’ve come up with a list of my favorite Valentine’s Day themed books for you. In the lesson plans, I chose a few books to include along with activities that go with them.

Along with these books, I’ve included Valentine’s Day themed words for your word wall.

Whole Group Activities for Valentine’s Day

Friendship and kindness are the themes of the whole group lessons. There is a book that ties in with each activity, which keeps students excited for the next day!

Valentine’s Day Math and Literacy Centers

A challenge that a lot teachers face is what to give their students when teachers are in small groups. Don’t stress about that again! I’ve included Literacy and math centers! Each center activity includes an “I Can” statement to remind students of the task at hand.

Literacy focuses on letter recognition and initial sounds, sight words (which is editable!) and vowel sorting.

Math centers focus on composing numbers, number order and positional words.

Take some more time for yourself! Cut the planning in half by grabbing this Valentine’s Thematic Unit!
