Gingerbread season is here! And although I would love to spend the morning with my students baking gingerbread men, it’s just not feasible. This gingerbread syllable sorting center (maybe) the next best thing and less mess!
Home Centers
This resource is perfect for kindergarten students that are learning the foundation of building words and using syllables. Many classrooms have been told to remove home centers from their classrooms, so this is a great alternative. If you do have a home center, this activity is a perfect place to add to that center! 
Themed Centers
Adding themed literacy activities for the holidays is so fun. Chances are the classroom is already decked out for Christmas. Therefore, why not add a little pizzaz to your literacy station? First grade students have grown out of the home center, but you can use this activity in your regular literacy station!
Good For Second Grade!
Syllable practice flows even to second grade. This is a great literacy station to use during that last week of school before their long break. They will have fun, but also complete a quick review on syllable counting!
You can even have your students use a dry erase marker to mark where each syllable starts!
This syllable sorting center is easy to prep. All you need are the three sorting mats, picture cards, and a recording sheet. You can even add some real cookie trays
