At the Beach

A young girl spends a radiant summer day at the beach in this updated classic from the author of Apples and Pumpkins. Sun…sand…the bright blue ocean! There is so much for a young girl to do on a visit to the beach: sand castles to build, seashells to gather, sandpipers to run with, and a picnic lunch to enjoy.

Fun in the Sun

Strawberry Shortcake and her friends are berry excited to spend a day at the beach! Everyone except Lemon Blossom, that is. The other girls don’t know it, but Lemon is afraid to swim in the ocean! When Strawberry discovers Lemon’s fear, she does her best to show her that the ocean isn’t so scary when your friends are by your side.

Clam-I-Am!: All About the Beach

Norval the Fish is hosting a seaside talkshow for the Fish Channel–and the Cat in the Hat and Thing One and Thing Two are Cameracat and Crew! Among Norval’s special guests are his old friend Clam-I-Am (a shy gal who lives in the sand and likes to spit), along with horseshoe and hermit crabs, jellyfish, sand fleas, starfish, seagulls, and miscellaneous mollusks. Seaweed, seaglass, tides, tidal pools, dunes, driftwood, and waves make cameo appearances, too. Warning: Beginning readers are apt to be swept away!

The Pout-Pout Fish

Swim along with the pout-pout fish as he discovers that being glum and spreading “dreary wearies” isn’t really his destiny. Bright ocean colors and playful rhyme come together in Deborah Diesen’s fun fish story that’s sure to turn even the poutiest of frowns upside down.

Seashells by the Seashore

Both classroom teachers and vacationing parents will find this little book to be a charmer. Counting from one to twelve, Sue picks up shells–periwinkle, kittens paw, scallop–and carefully adds them to her bucket as a gift for Grandma. She and her friend identify the shells, and when they discover one that still has the mollusk living inside they put it back in the water–learning that shells are actually the (usually) abandoned homes of sea animals. The paperback edition contains a tear-out shell identification card to enhance the hands-on lesson in simple wonders from nature.

What Lives in a Shell?

A house is a home for you, a nest is a home for a bird, and a cave is a home for a bear. But for some animals a shell is a home. Snails and turtles and crabs and clams all have shells that act as their homes and protect them from harm. This Level 1 Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out picture book is a fascinating exploration of the many creatures that make a home in a shell.

The Night Before Summer Vacation

A little girl and her family are getting ready to go on vacation . . . or at least they are trying to. In the effort to pack everything that will be needed, there’s bound to be something overlooked, and what that is provides a funny ending to this meter-perfect “twist” on Clement Moore’s classic.

Curious George Goes to the Beach

One hot summer day, George and the man with the yellow hat go to the beach. What fun George has at the beach! What fun he has feeding the seagulls! It’s fun, that is, until they fly away with something valuable and George must find a clever way to save the day.

Fancy Nancy: Sand Castles and Sand Palaces

Join Fancy Nancy on a trip to the beach in New York Times bestselling team Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser’s 8×8 picture book, complete with a fabulous set of stickers. In Fancy Nancy: Sand Castles and Sand Palaces, Nancy spends the day at the beach with her friends. They build the most magnificent sand palace imaginable! But when the tide comes in, what will happen to their beautiful creation? Fans of Fancy Nancy will delight in Nancy’s sparkling creativity and imagination.

Along the way, they meet sharks, jellyfish, dolphins, manatees, whales, and sea cucumbers, to name just a few!

Sun, Sun

Following a long winter and a dreary spring, the sun has returned and that means one thing – it’s time to head to the beach! Join three kids on their beach adventure as they experience the joys of everything from swimming to sandcastles to kites to ice cream – it’s all there! You and your kids will instantly fall in love with the exquisite illustrations as well as the poetic nature of the book that makes reading it as much fun as hearing it read.

Daisy Dawson at the Beach

School’s out for Daisy Dawson, and things couldn’t be any better. Imagine a whole summer at the beach, full of sand, sun, and surfing! And now that she’s making new animal friends – a crab named Pinchy who likes to dance and two fun-loving rabbits named Rabsy and Raberta – her vacation promises to be all the more exciting. But when Daisy hears a call for help from the bottom of the sea, she finds a dolphin in deep trouble, caught in old fishing nets. Will Daisy and her friends be able to save the dolphin before it’s too late?

Uh-Oh!

A charming summer board book that’s just right for toddlers, from the team behind the critically acclaimed picture book Mine! This nearly wordless story of toddler adventure perfectly captures the dynamics between the youngest friends and the sheer pleasure of that favorite toddler word: Uh-Oh!

Come visit a bedazzling world of moonlight, firelight, and . . . bats!

Swimmy

Deep in the sea lives a happy school of fish. Their watery world is full of wonders, but there is also danger, and the little fish are afraid to come out of hiding . . . until Swimmy comes along. Swimmy shows his friends how—with ingenuity and team work—they can overcome any danger.
