Today is Veteran’s Day, and I realized that I haven’t spent a lot of time talking to Grayson about our Veterans. So, Grayson and I did a few activities to give him a better understanding of how soldiers and veterans serve our country. To do that, Grayson and I completed some fun soldier activities. We began by reading I Want To Be a Soldier together. This book is great for teaching little ones about being a soldier. It has great pictures and simple paragraphs describing each page…perfect for little learners! I think Grayson’s favorite part was seeing the soldiers jump out of the helicopters. I hope this isn’t a peek into a future of sky diving for him!
After reading, we sorted the different ways soldiers travel. Grayson did a great job and loved looking at the different pictures. Even though he is still little, I talked about the different groups soldiers are in: Navy, Army, Air Force.
Once we were done sorting, we each picked a picture and created it using Mega Bloks. We had a blast playing with our soldiers from this coloring page in their jeep and boat. Dramatic play is vital for kids this age as it helps them to understand that they can be anything just by pretending. I also found that Grayson was using some of the words we read in our book while playing with his Mega Bloks.
Tomorrow we are going to prepare a box of donations for Operation Gratitude! It’s not too late to grab my American Soldiers Mini-Pack! Be sure to thank a Veteran for their service to our country today!
